There were 16 collection sites throughout Lehigh County that participated but South Whitehall's collection was much higher than any others. The two closest sites were Walgreens on Tilghman Street, with 173.5 pounds, and the Emmaus Police Department, with 139 pounds.
"There was a church mission that had leftover drugs from a trip to Haiti," said South Whitehall Lt. John Christman. "We usually do very well, not that it’s a competition, but we usually have higher numbers and we were certainly higher than any other in the county."
National Take Back Day is coordinated by the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office, Lehigh County police departments, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Allentown Health Bureau.
The total weight from the 16 sites was 944.5 pounds. Collections over the past five years total 3,268.5 pounds.
