Township Hires Firm to Update Zoning Map

South Whitehall commissioners gave the go-ahead Wednesday night for Thomas Comitta Associates Inc. of West Chester to help implement the township's comprehensive plan.

The township approved the spending of $57,000 to have the town planners initiate the project, prepare an overlay map, prepare development standards, present its work to township planners, draft amendments and make any revisions.

Additionals costs are likely, depending on how many public hearings will need to be held, and commissioners directed township staff to get more information on the firm's fees before it approves any additional costs.

The township adopted its comprehensive plan, which outlines strategies for residential and commercial growth as the township's population increases, in 2009. Commissioner Chair Tori Morgan said the zoning update is the next step.

"This helps you plan for the future," she said.
