Penn Friends Held Vigil For Parkland Grad Ayra Singh
Ayra Singh, 20, a junior studying nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly Feb. 8.
Friends and family held a vigil last week in tribute to Parkland High School graduate Ayra Singh, 20, of Allentown who died Feb. 8 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Singh, who was in her junior year of nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly. Autopsy results are pending.
According to a Facebook page, a candlelight procession that was part of the event -- called "A Celebration of the Life of Ayra Singh" -- began on College Green at the University of Pennsylvania campus and ended at Houston Hall.
More than 100 people attended, including family and friends, according to the Daily Pennsylvanian. Those who attended comforted each other, but there also was laughter as they shared stories, the newspaper reported.
Student Alex McCabe told The Daily Pennsylvanian that Singh "lit up a room" with her broad smile. “She was the life of every party.”
Postings on the "Penn Compliments" Facebook page read:
* "The world is a dimmer place without you here, but with the countless lives you've influenced and inspired, I have no doubt that your spirit will continue to brighten the world for years and years to come. May you rest in peace."
* "Ayra Singh, you brightened up campus every single day just by your smile and being so incredibly loving. You will be missed so very much. Rest in peace."
