Economist: Thousands Will be Hired by End of Year

Lehigh Valley jobs will recover to pre-Great Recession levels by end of year, says Kamran Afshar.

Thousands of people will be hired by Lehigh Valley businesses over the next several months, according to Bethlehem economist Kamran Afshar, quoted in this story in The Morning Call. By the end of the year, the number of jobs in the Lehigh Valley will surpass the levels achieved before the Great Recession hit five years ago, according to the report quoted in the newspaper. Parkland Honors Opera Singer, 'Bones' Star, Other Alum

Opera singer Patricia Risley, "Bones" television star Michaela Conlin and former NFL tight end Tim Massaquoi among eight distinguished Parkland alumni inducted into Wall of Honor at 2012 Gala.

A sold-out crowd turned out Monday night for the Parkland's Education Foundation's first Gala, which saw eight accomplished Parkland High School alum inducted into a Wall of Honor, including an actress, opera singer, former NFL tight end, business and education leaders. The event was held at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Fogelsville. Patch was there for the festivities. Inducted in the Wall of Honor:

Mack Trucks, LCTI Drive New SteelStacks Stand

LCTI students are building a Mack Truck that will be part of an iconic concession stand at ArtsQuest's Levitt Pavilion in Bethlehem.

Salisbury High Sophomore Casey Moyer is looking forward to going to the new Mack Truck Stop concession stand at the SteelStacks in Bethlehem this summer and saying “I helped build that.” He has plenty of company. Moyer is one of 35 Lehigh Career & Technical Institute students who is rebuilding and refurbishing a Titan model Mack Truck that will be part of the concession stand at Levitt Pavilion at SteelStacks arts venue. The truck will be installed next to the Mack Truck Stop in June, giving it the appearance that it is pulling a trailer, said Kassie Hilgert, senior vice president of marketing and advancement for ArtsQuest, which opened the Levitt Pavilion last year. Lehigh Valley realtors say the local housing market is growing steadily.

The Lehigh Valley housing market is showing steady growth, according to the latest report from the valleywide Association of Realtors. Among the highlights: “For the past several months, our members have been sharing anecdotal reports that real estate activity is steadily increasing.  The market data from our research substantiates in quantifiable terms what we have been hearing,” said Ryan Conrad, chief executive officer of the Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors.  What real estate trends do you see in your neighborhood? Meals on Wheels Gets $1,000 to Help Feed Clients' Pets

The Banfield Charitable Trust gave Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County a $1,000 grant to help feed its clients' pet companions.

Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County received a grant of $1,000 from the Banfield Charitable Trust to help feed senior clients' pet companions. Meals on Wheels of Northampton County also received a grant. As a public charity, Banfield Charitable Trust focuses on keeping pets and their owners together, according to a release from Meals on Wheels, which has offices in South Whitehall. The Trust aims to find ways to prevent pet owners from having to surrender a pet, which can be a heartbreaking decision.  Recognizing that many homebound adults share their meals with their pets, Banfield Charitable Trust partnered with Meals on Wheels Association of America to help fund pet programs, the release said.   Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County and Meals …
