About this column:

In our weekly feature, we ask readers for their opinion on what stores, restaurants or businesses they would like to see in vacant locations.
The former Fashion Bug location is up for lease. According to online listings the space is 6,657 square feet and the rental rate is negotiable. The address is 1620 North Cedar Crest Boulevard, and is described online as being "one block north of Route 22 in close proximity to deep and affluent west end Allentown properties." What business would you like to see in this location? Let us know in the comments section below.
The King George Inn, a historic landmark and favorite destination for fine dining in South Whitehall, closed in August. For 42 years, Cliff McDermott owned and operated the restaurant at the corner of Hamilton and Cedar Crest boulevards. In August, McDermott closed the restaurant abruptly - leaving a sign on the door that read: We're sorry. The King George Inn is now closed for business. Thank you for your patronage the past 42 years. Since closing, there have been multiple offers on the property, which is listed at $1,399,000, according to Bill Plasha, chairman of the commercial group …
Patch snapped a picture of the former Yorgey Supply Kitchen & Bath Design Center store at the corner of Orchard Road and Route 309, thinking it was a vacancy that retailers and readers would love to see filled because of its visibility on a highly traveled route. Unfortunately, there's no chance that will happen. According to Greg Kotch, partner and vice president at Yorgey Supply, his company was forced to sell the building to the state, under eminent domain, so PennDOT can widen the intersection. Apparently PennDOT has had plans to widen the western side of the intersection since the late…
Magnolia’s Vineyard Restaurant, located at 2204 Village Road where it intersects with Huckleberry Road, is a historic building that has been used as an inn and restaurant since the 1800s. It's also thought to be haunted by a good-natured ghost named Magnolia Evans, whose family once owned the building. Larry Ginsburg, of Prudential Regency Real Estate, currently represents the property, which is owned by a bank. He said it is 8,000 square feet, zoned commercial and is listed for $320,000. There was one interested party that recently looked at the building and wanted to use it as a daycare …
The vacant Benjamin Moore Haley Paint & Design Center in the Dorneyville Shopping Center leaves a large hole in the strip mall that faces Hamilton Boulevard. James Balliet of KW Commercial -The James Balliet Group said a party supply business, similar to a small Party City, and a pet supply company recently toured the 7,500 square-foot space but so far there is nothing official to report. Next-door-neighbor, Augie Moore, general manager of the Chicken Lounge, said the space has been vacant for at least a year What would you like to see at this location - between the Chicken Lounge and …
TCBY, a frozen yogurt shop that didn't make it long enough to enjoy the resurgence of yogurt shops across the Valley, closed about two years ago.  An employee at For Eyes Optical, located next door to the vacant store, said she hasn't seen any progress since TCBY closed. When Patch asked Dr. Bruce Hillman of For Eyes what business he would like to see, he said, "Yocco's." What would you like to see here? Tell us in the comments section. The strip mall experienced some redevelopment this summer when Patient First opened where the former Blockbuster Video once was.
Redeveloping the Lukoil Gas Station, which has stood vacant for about a year at the Cedar Crest Boulevard and Route 22 intersection, will require rezoning for anything other than a gas station. South Whitehall Zoning Officer Keith Zehner said the gas station use is grandfathered and another commercial use is not permitted because it's in a residential neighborhood. If a business wanted to develop the property as something other than a gas station, it would have to go before the zoning board, and Zehner said any proposed commercial use would have to generate the same level of traffic or less …
On Sept. 30 the Verizon Wireless Store in Village West Shopping Center closed. An employee who was helping move that day said the store is relocating to Lehigh Street in Allentown. Its departure has left an empty storefront in Village West. What would you like to see go there?
We want to know what stores you want to see in your township. The empty store front seen here is next to Tuesday Morning in the K-Mart Shopping Center off Tilghman Street. The company that owns the plaza is the Allentown Towne Center. Unfortunately, the phone number listed on the sign in front of the plaza did not work. A quick poll of employees working in stores near the vacant spot said it has been empty for at least two years and they couldn't recall what had once been there. This strip mall has seen some recent movement when a sign went up for a new Thai restaurant, Thai Avenue, last …
