Wednesday: Homecoming Week's Garter Bowl

One of the traditions of homecoming week at Parkland High School is the Garter Bowl, the annual powder puff football game between senior and junior girls.

This year’s clash takes place at 7 p.m. at Orefield Middle School.

  • Today is Bag Day at the 55th annual AAUW Used Book Sale. Fill a standard grocery bag with books and other sale items and pay only $5. The sale at 997 Postal Road in Allentown starts at 9 a.m. and features thousands of books sorted into more than 30 categories. There is also a selection of audio books, music, movies, puzzles, children's games and other items.
  • If you’ve got a little runner around the house, register him or her in the Runner’s World Half & Festival kids events set for Friday night at SteelStacks in Bethlehem. The BlueCross Store in the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley are hosting a pre-registration event from 6 to 8 p.m. with giveaways and training advice for young athletes.
  • The Parkland Community Library hosts Book Quest, it’s monthly book discussion group. This month’s selection is Brick Lane by Monica Ali. New members are always welcome!
  • The 10 finalists of the most recent season of the hit Fox television show “So You Think You Can Dance” bring their moves to the stage at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center at 7 p.m. Tickets are from $39.50 to $65.50.
  • The South Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the township building on Walbert Avenue.
