Fat Freddie’s occupies an unassuming storefront on Main Street, Macungie.

Look for the maroon awning, or the life-size statue of a portly gentleman in a chef’s hat and apron. The chalkboard he holds promotes a Fat Freddie’s special, and his winking, “thumbs up” expression challenges diners to commemorate their visit with a group photo around the sidewalk sentinel.

Pizza is one of the prime attractions at Fat Freddie’s, with dozens of options of various toppings and styles. There’s white pizza with spinach, broccoli or scaloppini, chicken parmigiano, chicken cordon bleu, seven veggie, Hawaiian (ham and pineapple), and even heart-shaped pizza -- for date night?

Fat Freddie’s claims to have the “sweetest sauce in town,” prepared in house, not out of a jar.

Otherwise, the menu has a full complement of casual Italian/American fare, including stromboli, calzone, hot wings, varieties of steak sandwiches and chicken sandwiches, burgers, hot wings, cold hoagies, club sandwiches, and plenty of accompaniments like French fries, pierogies, potato skins, and mozzarella sticks.

In the mood for pasta? Entrees of spaghetti with choice of sauces, or ziti, manicotti, lasagna, stuffed shells and more are served with salad and garlic bread, most for around $7.25 to $9.25.

Fat Freddie’s understands the value of word-of-mouth advertising. They sell “Freddie wear” T-shirts and hats for running around town, and offer a 5 percent discount to customers who come in to eat wearing their Freddie garb.
