The first opened as a single site restaurant in Arlington, Va., in 1986. Over the next 15 years the business expanded in the metro Washington, D.C. area, and since then has opened more than 750 franchised locations across the United States and Canada. In the Lehigh Valley, there are Five Guys restaurants on Tilghman Street across from Wegmans in Allentown and in the Airport Center shopping plaza in Hanover Township.
The menu is deliberately limited: burgers, hot dogs and fries.
Five Guys’ philosophy is to focus on just a few items and to do them very well. They serve their beef burgers well done, with or without cheese and/or bacon. Customers can exercise personal preference with any of the 15 free toppings, which include the usuals such as ketchup, mustard, mayo and relish, as well as grilled mushrooms, jalapeno peppers and BBQ sauce.

The cost of a burger ranges from $3.59 to $6.39. The kosher hot dogs, with choice of cheese, bacon and toppings, are $3.39 to $4.59. Fries are cooked exclusively in peanut oil, plain or Cajun style. Regular size is $2.69; large is $4.99.
