Bites Nearby: King George Inn

Even before the Revolutionary War, the crossroads tavern that is now the was serving weary travelers.

Very few horse drawn carriages have occasion to pass by Hamilton and Cedar Crest Boulevards anymore, but now the parking lot is a welcome sight for gasoline-powered conveyances, and hungry diners can still find refreshment within.

The cozy dining rooms feature thick stone walls, fireplaces and antique cocktail bars. Full course dinners are the staple of the menu. Appetizers include jumbo lump crabmeat and baked almond crusted brie. Steak, lobster and other seafood dominate the entrees, most of which are $18.95-$31.95. The roast Jaindl turkey sandwich brings local ingredients to the table.

For those with smaller appetites, some of the popular entrees are also available as half portions, at reduced prices. Side dishes are a la carte. Meals can end with a long list of specialty coffees, made with spirits or liqueurs and fresh whipped cream.

Many groups choose the King George Inn for corporate functions and private parties. Several meeting rooms accommodate parties of various sizes, from 10 to 75 people.

The King George Inn, built in 1756, has been designated a National Historic Site by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
