Bites Nearby: Quiznos

Quiznos began as a little sub shop in Denver, CO.  Thirty years later, with locations across the United States and internationally, Quiznos distinguishes itself with the notion that toasting “wakes up the flavor” of all its subs and other sandwiches. Each sandwich is made to order with fresh meats, cheeses, vegetables, condiments and dressing on the customer’s choice of soft breads -- and is never served cold.

Quiznos sorts its numerous sub varieties into “Classic Subs” and “Signature Subs.” Among the classics are the expected Italian, tuna melt, classic club, pork Cuban and traditional (roast beef, turkey, ham and cheddar).

Signature subs venture into more adventuresome flavor combinations, including black angus on rosemary parmesan, chipotle prime rib, Baja chicken, chicken carbonara and peppercorn steakhouse dip.

Flatbread Sammies come in interesting combinations of similar ingredients, but are served in a soft, toasted flatbread. Varieties include veggie, bistro steak melt and chicken bacon ranch. Quiznos Bullets and Torpedoes are close relatives of subs, served on soft and slim deli baguettes—toasted, of course. Torpedoes are the loooonger version.

Rounding out the menu are hearty, comfort food soups (broccoli cheese, chicken noodle and chili) and several salads, including caprese chicken, cobb and harvest chicken. It is not hard to choose an economical meal, with plenty of items included in the Choose-2 category that can all be mixed and matched for $5.50.

Quiznos makes nutrition information available for everything on the menu. At least two dozen items (including several Bullets and Flatbread Sammies, as well as soups and salads) have fewer than 500 calories. Early risers should know that Quiznos also serves a handful of breakfast items.
