Excellent Weather Conditions on the Way

By Steven DiMartino

As a back door cold front retreats back towards New England, excellent weather conditions will be in place just in time for the weekend.  However, the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas will have to dodge a few showers and isolated thunderstorms this afternoon and evening first.

The back door cold front will exit the region this afternoon and evening with scattered to broken cloud cover and the threat for a few widely scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms.  The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 40 mph, frequent lightning, hail, and heavy downpours.  Most thunderstorms however are expected to be weak and rather isolated.  Winds will veer from the south to the northeast at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the upper 60's to lower 70's along the coast and lower to mid 70's throughout the rest of the region.

High pressure will be in control tonight on through Sunday with scattered clouds to clear skies.  Winds will be from the north and northeast at 5 to 15 mph through the period.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50's for lows and mid to upper 70's for highs, upper 60's to lower 70's along the immediate coast.

High pressure will remain in control on Monday with scattered clouds.  Winds will back to the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50's for lows and upper 70's to lower 80's for highs.

A warm front will stall over the region on Tuesday through Thursday with scattered to overcast cloud cover and periods of showers and thunderstorms.  Temperatures will vary significantly depending on the location of the warm front.  Low temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's throughout the region.  High temperatures to the east of the warm front will range from the upper 60's to mid 70's and to the west of the warm front in the upper 70's to mid 80's.  Where the warm front is located day to day will determine where the warm and cool conditions line up.
