Five Things To Do This Weekend

Patch offers up ideas to help you make the most of your weekend

1. An Introduction to African Art

Where/When: North Whitehall Township Building on Tuesday, March 15, at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Africa is a huge and varied continent, yet many of its people share common ideas.  A slide lecture by Dr. Jill Furst will introduce you to some major African concepts. Learn about the importance of lineage and village organization, people's relationships with ancestors and spirits, divine kingship, and gender and age roles. 2. Valley Flower and Garden Show

Where/When: Allentown Fairgrounds Agri-Plex, open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 11, and Saturday, March 12. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 13.

Why Go: The weather’s starting to warm up, so think Spring. And what better way than to attend the Lehigh Valley’s flower show.  “Symphony of Spring” runs Friday through Sunday with free parking. Speakers and presentations will give you plenty of ideas on planning your garden…and don’t forget your camera.

Pricing: Adults $6; children 12 and under free; seniors $4 (Friday only) There’s also a $1 off coupon on their website for Friday. 

3. Basket Social

Where/When: Faith Lutheran Church in Whitehall on Saturday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, March 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go:  Proceed benefit the church, and you have a chance to win any of
the gift baskets on display. Baskets will each have a container for you to put your tickets. The drawing will be on Sunday at 1:30 (you need not be present to win). They will also have BBQ, hot dogs and cake, if you're hungry.

Pricing:
$5 for 26 tickets.

4. All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner

Where/When: is hosting the event on Friday, March 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy an Italian feast at Jordan UCC’s Social Hall with a ‘Lent Friendly’ dinner. 

Pricing: Adults, $7; children ages 4 to 10, $4; children ages 4 and under are free.

5. Learn HDR Photography

Where/When: Dan’s Camera City is offering this free one-hour seminar on Saturday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m.

Why Go: Take a free seminar to learn photo tips to improve  your photos. HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography is an approach to shooting the high-contrast scenes we see all around us.
