Get Out: Basket Bingo, Wine Tastings and More

Patch offers up ideas to help you make the most of your weekend

Editor's note: It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-with-work-outta-here time.

1. She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith

Where/When: DeSales University, Labuda Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27.

Why Go: Act 1 presents Oliver Goldsmith's comedy about Mr. Marlow who is at ease with lower class women but quite shy with the refined Kate Hardcastle. She realizes that, to win his affections, she must "stoop to conquer."

Pricing: Tickets are $21 for students and seniors; $23 for adults.

2. Allentown Library Book Sale

Where/When: Allentown Public Library at 12th and Hamilton streets on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Why Go:  It’s not just paperback books – they will also be selling DVDs and audio books. Add to your own library for less.

Pricing:  Prices vary.

3. Sunday Blues Wine Tasting w/ Jake Kaligis & Mike Rauscher's Dynamic Duo

Where/When: Blue Mountain Vineyards on Sunday, Feb. 27, from 2 – 5 p.m.

Why Go:  They’ll have live acoustic entertainment with a commanding view of the mountains and vineyards. Gourmet cheeses and fresh baked bread will be available for purchase or you may bring your own snacks.

Pricing: Admission is $5. Please call 610-298-3068 for reservations.

4. Longaberger and Vera Bradley Basket Bingo

Where/When: Parkland High School cafeteria at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27.

Why Go: Support the Parkland High School Softball Team and possibly win a new Vera Bradley purse. There will also be basket auctions, specials and 50/50 raffles. For more information, contact Colleen Welsh, JV head softball coach, at 610-351-5900 ext 74203.

Pricing: Tickets are $20 for 20 games, featuring Longaberger Baskets and Vera Bradley Purses. Other game prices vary.

5. Chocolates and Wine Festival

Where/When: (Center Valley location) on Sunday, Feb. 27, from 1 – 4 p.m.

Why Go: Sample chocolate and wine from local wineries, chocolatiers, bakeries and restaurants. Proceeds benefit Kids of Character – www.kids-of-character.org - a local nonprofit that promotes character education and development for kids in the Lehigh Valley.  Funds will help sponsor the 2nd Annual Lehigh Valley Youth Leadership and Ethics Conferences at DeSales University in April.

Pricing: Tickets are $10 in advance; $15 at the door
