Mayfair Festival of the Arts Opens Today; Plus Band Concert, Picnic, More

Patch offers up ideas to help you make the most of your weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-with-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the weekend.

1. The 25th Annual Mayfair Festival of the Arts

Where/When: Allentown's Cedar Beach, from Thursday, May 26, through Memorial Day, May 30. Hours are 4-11 p.m. today; noon-11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday; noon-7 p.m. Monday.

Why Go: Outdoor entertainment, arts, crafts and food galore. You name it, Mayfair's got it.  Celtic, rock, Latin, German, blues, oldies, reggae and Gospel music; local dance and musical acts, strolling acts, battle of the bands and other contests. There's plenty to do for people of all ages.

Price: $5 for single days, and $10 for a full-festival pass. You must use festival tickets to buy food and drinks; each ticket is 50 cents.

2. BBQ Sunday

 Where/When: on the Green on Sunday, May 29, around 6 p.m.

Why Go: Days are getting longer, warmer…and smokier at the Brew Works on the Green with real barbeque. Slow roasted brisket, chicken, ribs and pork over hot smoking coals and wood for hours.

Price: Prices vary.

3. Allentown Band Concert, hosted by .

Where/When: , 1200 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall, on Sunday, May 29, at 7 p.m. 

Why Go: It's the popular Allentown Band, with their spirited performances, to mark Memorial Day! 

Price: Free

4. Fullerton Memorial Fair 2011

Where/When: Fullerton Memorial Playground (behind Toys-R-Us) starting Wednesday, June 1, and running through Sunday, June 5. Open 6-10 p.m. on June 1 through June 3 and 3-10 p.m. on June 4 and June 5.

Why Go: Family fun. Music by Time & Jules on Wednesday, June 1; The Large Flowerheads on Thursday, June 2; Billy Bauer Band on Friday, June 3; Happy Jack the Polka Kin and She Said Sunday on Saturday, June 4; and Jake Kaligis on Sunday June 5. Ride specials and fireworks on Sunday, June 5 as well. The fair benefits the Fullerton Memorial Playground and Athletic Association.

Price: Ride/food prices vary. Entertainment is free.

5. Picnic at Parkland, the Sequel

Where/When: on Wednesday, June 1, from 11:30 a.m. until noon.

Why Go: Because of the high response, a second Picnic at Parkland date has been added, so grab a blanket and a picnic basket and sign up for Picnic at Parkland. Parents and kids ages 2-6 can pack a lunch, bring something to sit on, and join us for an outdoor (weather permitting) story time. You’ll read books about picnics, and kids will get to eat strawberries and whipped cream. For the full schedule, click here.
