Hello, 911? There's a Cow Grazing on Township Building Lawn

The cow seen grazing on the South Whitehall Township Administration Building's lawn wouldn't be the first time livestock was used by a government agency to cut grass.

It's time once again for another installment of strange animal sightings in South Whitehall Township.

Police received a call last Monday night that a black cow was grazing on the grass in front of the township administration building on Walbert Avenue. Kind of trumps the sighting on July 29 of a large lizard seen in a tree in the 4000 block of Walnut Street.

We don't know if the cow was an effort by the Public Works department to go green by cutting back on gasoline needed for its lawn mowers, but it wouldn't be the first time livestock was used by a government agency to cut grass.

But it's certainly been awhile.

President William Taft kept a cow on the White House lawn to feed on the grass and President Woodrow Wilson used a flock of sheep to keep the lawn groomed.

The cow in question could be related to reports last month about a cow running down the 3700 block of Huckleberry Road and an angus calf that had escaped its pen and was seen in the 2200 block of Scherer Road.
