Low-Income Seniors Can Get Free Local Produce

Lehigh County announces distribution of farmer's market checks

Low-income senior citizens in Lehigh County can get free checks to buy fresh produce and other local goods at area farmer's markets.

Seniors can get checks from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Lehigh County Government Center's information and referral lobby, 17 S. Seventh St., Allentown while supplies last.

Proof of age and residency are required. Participants must be 60 or older with a total gross household income no higher than $20,147 for a single person, $27,214 for a married couple, $34,281 for a family of three or $41,348 for a family of four.

Each individual may receive four $5 vouchers. A couple may receive eight $5 vouchers.

The vouchers cannot be used at grocery stores. They must be used at farmer's markets by Nov. 30.
