Two Local Dogs Make Good Effort at Westminster

Rocky, a smooth coat chihuahua, and Deacon, a French bulldog, were among those competing in the prestigious dog show. Their owners reside in South Whitehall.

Rocky, a 3-year-old smooth coat chihuahua, faced some tough competition this year at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, according to owner and handler Connie Newcomb of South Whitehall.

"Rocky did not win anything, but we had fun," Newcomb wrote in an email.

She was still in New York Tuesday, a day after the competition, enjoying the city.

It was Rocky's third trip to Westminster.

Meanwhile, Barbara Toczek was back home in South Whitehall on Tuesday afternoon with Babyface Bandits Deacon, a French bulldog, who also competed in the 136th annual dog show but did not win in his category.

Toczek said 39 French bulldogs were in the competition, and "only one can win."

This was the fourth year Toczek was at Westminster, but the first year for her Deacon, which she owns and handles. She hopes to return next year.

"It's an honor to be elected to go there," she said.
