Dorney Park to Build New Locker Room Building

Amusement park will redevelop two-thirds of an acre with new locker building, a shaded pavilion and landscaping.

Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom will build a new locker room building featuring electronic locks where guests can use PIN numbers rather than keys to store personal items and keep clothes dry during visits to the water park.

Last week, South Whitehall Township Commissioners approved a plan to rebuild two-thirds of an acre inside the park—between the Talon rollercoaster and the water park—to accommodate the new locker building and other improvements.

It is the first of several improvements that the park will be proposing during the offseason, park officials told commissioners.

First Dorney Park plans to remove the existing locker building, the locker rental stand, two pavilions, a food stand and a shed.

Those items will be replaced with the new 5,300-square-foot locker building, a shaded market seating area, landscaping and walkways.

The new landscaping would include 10 new trees and 200 new shrubs, according to internal township memos.

The new locker building is designed to provide for “a better guest experience,” said Mike Fehnel, the park’s vice president and general manager.

Since the improvements to this portion of the park will actually, decrease impervious coverage, no new storm-water drainage is required, according to township officials.
