200-Unit Townhouse Development Proposed on Blue Barn Road

Blue Barn Meadows, a 200-unit townhouse development, has been proposed for the 1500 block of Blue Barn Road. Owner Posocco Equities successfully petitioned the South Whitehall Planning Commission Thursday to rezone 11 of the 40-acre development to allow higher density housing. The land had been zoned R4 medium density, which permits only single-family detached houses.

Jaindl Plan for Walbert Ave. Strip Mall Concerns Residents

Developer David Jaindl came to the South Whitehall Township Planning Commission looking for public feedback to his latest plan on and got it. The standing-room-only crowd at the meeting Thursday night overwhelmingly opposed Jaindl's plan to build a high-end strip mall and restaurant on the Shoemaker car dealership lot, saying it would change the character of the residential area and increase traffic on Walbert Avenue.

The new owners of the renovated Lukoil station in South Whitehall got permission to add a kitchen to make fried chicken and other food.

Univest Breaks Ground for $2M Building at Tilghman Square

On a picture-perfect day, Univest Corporation officials along with South Whitehall and Lehigh County officials broke ground Tuesday for a new two-story office building at Tilghman Square Shopping Center. The company plans to relocate 31 employees currently working out of offices in Allentown and Fogelsville into the 10,000-square-foot building, eventually expanding to 50 employees.

Lehigh County Executive William H. Hansell,  has resigned his post for health reasons, according to a release from the county.

Proposed Parkland Tax Hike will Decrease Slightly

Parkland School District officials say the proposed final 2013-14 school budget will carry a tax increase of less than 2.5%. The proposed final budget will be introduced to the school board on May 21.
