As this flu season continues to proliferate the flu vaccine is harder to come by. Check out this list of South Whitehall distributors to see which have flu shots in stock.

Getting a flu shot in South Whitehall has become a bit of a challenge. Many providers are sold out and don't plan to restock, while some are expecting more next week.

It's understandable that people are worried. So far this season, 23 people in Pennsylvania have died from influenza-related deaths. Recently a tented area that some folks say resembles a scene from television's M.A.S.H., was erected outside Lehigh Valley Health Network as a mobile ER to treat the growing number of patients suffering from the flu.

The Allentown Diocese is limiting personal contact for perishioners until further notice. Bishop John Barres announced Friday there will be no drinking from a chalice during holy communion and no physical contact during the sign of peace. Instead of a handshake, parishioners may bow or nod to their fellow worshipers.

If getting the vaccine from your physician is not option there are alternatives. A poll of local flu-shot providers found there are still some with available vaccine.

Influenza—more commonly known as simply "the flu"—is a contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses infecting the nose, throat and lungs. It spreads via infected people coughing, sneezing or talking, though people can also get infected by touching something with the flu virus on it before touching their mouth, eyes or nose.

Symptoms of the flu include muscle or body aches, headache, cough, sore throat, fatigue, fever or chills, and vomiting and diarrhea (the latter two are more common in kids). The flu can also worsen chronic medical conditions or cause death.
