Obituary: James L. Haines Sr.

James L. Haines Sr., a former assistant fire chief of Woodlawn Fire Dept., died Thursday, July 5, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

 

James L. Haines Sr., “Pop”, 77, of South Whitehall, passed away surrounded by love from many on Thursday, July 5, 2012 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp. He was the husband of Lois M. (Lobach) Haines.

They were married 57 years. Born in Morgantown, WV, he was the son of the late Oscar L. and Ruth E. (Kennedy) Haines. He lived for his family, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Jim was the owner and operator of Haines Exxon Service Center for 19 years, and recently celebrated 40 years as a Family Business with four generations involved. James was a graduate of Allentown H.S., Class of 1953.

Mr. Haines was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Allentown, where he served on numerous church committees. He was a charter member and past president of the United Church Bowling League.

He was a member of Greenleaf Lodge #561 F. & A.M., Lehigh Consistory and Rajah Shrine in Reading. Jim “Pop” was a former Assistant Fire Chief of . and was a former member of the Trailblazers 4 x 4 Club.

He enjoyed golfing, boating and sharing his model train collection.

Survivors: Wife; Children: Patricia A. Rhine and her husband Barry L. of Palmyra, PA, James L. Haines, Jr. and his wife Louise R. of Allentown, Susan D. Fahringer and her husband Daniel N. of Allentown, Sharon K. Miller and her husband Jon L. of Allentown; Grandchildren: Michael Haines, Todd Fahringer, Brandon Haines and his fiancé Paula, Amanda Miller, Michon Haines, Andrew Miller, Clint Miller; Brother-in-Law: George Napuda of Pennsville, NJ and nephew James Napuda and his family.

James was predeceased by his sister Eleanor C. Napuda. He is also survived by his extended family in Canadensis, PA and in Ohio as well as his beloved dog Taylor.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Redeemer Lutheran Church, 822 N. 19th St., Allentown, PA 18104. Call 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 1335-37 Linden St., Allentown.

A Masonic Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. A calling hour will also be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 pm.
