Update: Fatal Accident Shuts Down Section of Route 22

A motorcyclist was killed in the crash, the Lehigh County coroner's office says.

3:15 p.m.: A 23-year-old Whitehall man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Route 22 this morning that shut down a westbound section of the roadway for two hours.

Gregory A. Miller, of 1897 Sunset Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:25 a.m. by Deputy Coroner David M. Krause, according to a release from the coroner's office.

Krause said Miller died of head injuries incurred in the accident.

State police said Miller's speed and inexperience may have contributed to the crash.

The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on Route 22, near the 15th Street on ramp in South Whitehall.

Pennsylvania State Police at Bethlehem said Miller was travelling up the 15th Street ramp to Route 22 westbound and began to lose control while negotiating a hard right curve. Unable to yield to westbound traffic, he slid onto Route 22 and into the path of a car. Miller's motorcycle was clipped by the car, then struck by another car, state police said. The drivers of those cars were not injured.

Miller continued across the left lane, hitting the concrete median. 

The investigation continues.

The Woodlawn Fire Department assisted at the scene.

1 p.m.: Route 22 westbound through South Whitehall has re-opened following a fatal motorcycle accident earlier in the day.

10:44 a.m.: State Police at Bethlehem are on the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash on Route 22 westbound near the 15th Street exit in South Whitehall that has closed a wide portion of the roadway.

A motorcyclist was killed in the crash, the Lehigh County Coroner's office has confirmed. No other information was immediately available.

State police said the accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m.

Police said Route 22 westbound is now closed between Airport Road and Cedar Crest Boulevard.
