Four Hurt in Crashes on Route 22

An emergency vehicle responding to a fatal accident was hit while closing a section of Route 22.

A hit-and-run driver struck a Whitehall emergency vehicle responding to a fatal accident on Route 22 in South Whitehall early Sunday, then caused another crash on the roadway, state police at Fogelsville said.

Four people were injured in the crashes, which occurred at 4 a.m. 

State police said Jamie Hregician, 27, of Alburtis was travelling west on Route 22 when he passed through flares and cones being set up because of earlier on the roadway, near the 15th street exit ramp, and struck an open driver's door on a Whitehall emergency vehicle. Emergency personnel were putting up signs, cones and flares at the time and were not injured.

The driver didn't stop, state police said, and a half-mile further west on Route 22 struck the rear of another vehicle driven by Robert Bonser, 57, of Easton, who was traveling west at 40 mph. Both vehicles then struck another vehicle driven by Goanbeth Doan, 43, of Allentown.

The drivers of all three vehicles involved in the second crash, along with a passenger in Doan's car, were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

State police said Hregician showed signs of driving under the influence of alcohol. Charges are pending blood-alcohol test results.
