Burglar Pleads Guilty in Spree that Included South Whitehall

Angel Miguel Vargas pleaded guilty to 121 charges related to a five-county burglary spree, according to The Morning Call. He and his brother were accused of several burglaries in South Whitehall in 2010.

An Allentown man who, along with his brother, was accused of commiting more than 100 burglaries in a five counties pleaded guilty to 121 charges, according to The Morning Call. 

Angel Miguel Vargas had been set to go to trial but will instead be sentenced next month. His brother, George Washington, is scheduled to be tried in July.

The burglaries took place from October 2009 through January 2011, including several in South Whitehall. According to the arrest affidavit from last July, the brothers faced charges for at 4141 W. Tilghman Street on Sept. 5, 2010 and stealing $5,083 work of cigarettes and $379 worth of smokeless tobacco and causing $2,155 in damage.

They were also accused of committing seven other burglaries or attempted burglaries in South Whitehall, including at:

-- Crystal Clear Cleaners, 3329 Hamilton Blvd., Nov. 30, 2010.

-- Quick Stop, 1917 Walbert Ave., Dec. 2, 2010; $1,135 in goods taken, $500 in damages.

-- Gloria Dry Cleaners, 4255 Tilghman St., Dec. 12-13, 2010; $450 in goods and cash taken, $500 in damages.

-- Village West Cleaners, 3024 Tilghman St., Dec. 13, 2010; $300 from cash register, $500 in damages. 

-- Tuesday Morning, 4719 Tilghman St., Dec. 18, 2010; $1,800 in goods and cash taken, $3,124 in damages. 

-- Drop N Clean, 4749 Tilghman St., Dec. 18, 2010; $300 stolen, $425 in damages.  

-- Studio 2 Hair Salon, 3944 Hamilton Blvd., Dec. 26, 2010; $800 stolen, $500 in damages.
