Menagerie of Animal Complaints, Rescues Keep Cops Busy

South Whitehall police rescued a family of ducklings from a storm drain near Giant last Sunday.

It's all in a day's work, but South Whitehall Township Police are sometimes called out to rescue ducklings from storm drains or to save turtles from certain death on the highway, even the occasional kitten from a tree. The department received the following calls between May 15 and Monday.

  • Ducklings rescued from storm drain at Giant Food Store, 3100 Tilghman St., reported Sunday.
  • Groundhog in the 4400 block of Jamestown Ct., reported May 15.
  • Skunks fighting on Cedarbrook Road, reported May 15.
  • Pitbull running at large in 1100 block of N. 27th St.,reported May 14.
  • Fox running and screaming in first block of S. 19th St., reported May 12.
  • Geese crossing in 4700 block of Tilghman St., reported May 11.
  • Turtle in roadway at Route 309 and Chapmans Road, reported May 9.
