Orefield Man, 82, Dies After Fall from Bus, Coroner Says

Edwin Smoyer was a driver for the Easton Coach Company, according to a published report.

An 82-year-old Orefield man died Monday following a fall from the emergency door exit of a para-transit bus, according to the Lehigh County coroner's office.

Edwin Smoyer, of the 3200 block of Second Avenue in the Orefield section of North Whitehall Township, was pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

He had fallen from the bus at 3:08 p.m. in the 1900 block of Liberty Street, Allentown, the coroner's office said.

Smoyer, a driver for the Easton Coach Company, was picking up people at the Goodwill Industries International Inc. when he fell,  according to a report on lehighvalleylive.com. He had worked for the company for seven years and a safe driving record, the report said.

The coroner ruled the death an accident that was caused by severe head injuries suffered in the fall.

The investigation is continuing.
