Police Link Man to South Whitehall Home Burglary

Joseph Bauman, of Allentown, is charged with receiving stolen property and other offenses. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A 53-year-old Allentown man has been charged in connection with a burglary last weekend at a South Whitehall home.

Joseph Bauman, of 633 N. Fourth St., Room 2, has been charged with receiving stolen property and other offenses, according to police.

The charges stem from a burglary that occurred at the home of Joseph Swank, 1324 N. Cedar Crest Blvd., between March 31 and April 1, police said. Stolen were antiques, firearms, electronics, tools and jewelry valued at $11,600, according to court records.

Police said they recovered an antique mantel clock, three rings, other jewelry and a leather belt, valued at $4,200, in Bauman's room.

* Another resident of 633 N. 4th St. found items, such as checks and a cellphone, belonging to the South Whitehall homeowner in the trash. The items were mixed in with mail that had been addressed to Bauman.

* The house manager notified police, who obtained a search warrant for Bauman's room.

* Police found items stolen from the South Whitehall home in Bauman's room.

Bauman was arrested before District Judge Ron Manescu, who set bail at $5,000 straight. Bauman is also charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphenalia.
