Reading-Area Drug Ring Stretched Into Lehigh County

A drug trafficking ring busted Wednesday stretched from Lancaster to Reading to the Lehigh Valley, police say.

About 80 police officers arrested nine suspects in raids aimed Wednesday at breaking up a drug ring based in Berks County but also operating in neighboring Lehigh County.

Police used court-authorized wiretaps to listen to alleged criminal activity discussed on cell phones of the suspects, according to reports by WFMZ and the Reading Eagle.

Police seized:

  • About 1,000 grams of cocaine with a street value of $100,000
  • About 475 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of $70,000
  • About 10 bundles of heroin with the street value of $1,000
  • Five handguns, two shotguns and two rifles
  • More than $33,000 in cash
  • One vehicle

Suspects were arrested in both the Reading area and Lancaster.
