Slatington Man Killed When Jeep Crashes into Tree, Overturns

Police identify dead driver as Zachary Alan Paules, 23; crash occurred Friday night on Route 329 in North Whitehall.

A 23-year-old Slatington man was killed Friday night when the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee he was driving went off Route 329 in North Whitehall Township, crashed into a tree, overturned and came to rest on its roof, police said.

A state police at Bethlehem fax identified the driver as Zachary Alan Paules. The crash scene was Route 329 at Crest Street, which is just west of Route 329's intersection with Main Street/Levans Road.

Police said the crash occurred at 10:36pm when the westbound Jeep went off the roadway and partially into a ditch. It then hit a tree, overturned and came to rest on its roof.

A representative of the Lehigh County coroner's office pronounced Paules dead at the crash scene, the fax said.

The fax also said Route 329 was closed at Crest Street for about four and a half hours during an investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Trooper Salvatore M. Alaimo Jr. at 610-861-2026.
