South Whitehall Hires New Patrol Officer

Eric A. Kleintop was sworn in Wednesday night as a South Whitehall Township police officer.

Eric A. Kleintop, a Parkland High School graduate, was sworn in
Wednesday night as a South Whitehall Township police officer.

Kleintop, 24, earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Temple University and graduated from the Allentown Police Academy in June. He lives in Slatington.

Kleintop will be assigned to the department's patrol division and begins his field training Sunday, said Chief Thomas Toth. Kleintop was selected among 16 candidates for the job.

The department, which currently has 38 members including the police chief, added four new patrol officers in 2012 to replace four who retired. Starting salary for a new officer at the time was $53,026.

The new patrol officer would be an addition to the force, which would allow a current member to become a school resource officer in the Parkland middle schools.
