South Whitehall Man Had Counterfeit Bills, Police Say

Raymond Santos, 50, is charged with theft by deception and forgery, according to court records.

A 50-year-old South Whitehall man allegedly used a counterfeit $10 bill to buy a bottle of soda at Weis Markets at 1500 N. Cedar Crest Blvd., South Whitehall police said.

He also allegedly had three counterfeit $10 bills and four counterfeit $20 bills in his possession when taken into custody, police said.

Raymond Santos, of the 3400 block of Highland Street, was charged on June 26 with theft by deception and two counts of forgery. 

According to court records, the Weis store manager told police that a man, later identified to be Santos, bought a bottle of ginger ale at the store with the counterfeit $10 bill at 6:52 p.m. on June 25, and he got back change.

Several hours later, at 1:29 a.m. on June 26, he returned to the store and bought something with cash. However, employees recognized him and officers took him into custody, court records said. 

Santos said he didn't know the $10 bill, which he said he got from another person, was counterfeit. Police said he had the seven other counterfeit bill when he was taken into custody.

Santos was arraigned by District Judge Robert Halal and released on $50,000 bail.
