State Police: Man Flees, Causes Accident in South Whitehall

A 54-year-old Allentown man faces charges after an accident on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Hamilton and Cedar Crest boulevards.

A 54-year-old Allentown man was arrested Wednesday on charges that included fleeing and eluding after a multiple-vehicle accident at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, in South Whitehall.

According to state police at Fogelsville, John Berger was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment, and he was to be arraigned after his release on charges of fleeing and eluding, suspicion of DUI, accidents involving attended vehicle, driving while license is suspended and eight other traffic violations.

* A state trooper saw Berger commit a traffic violation at Lincoln Drive and Hamilton Boulevard and attempted to stop Berger's pickup truck when it entered the rear parking lot of McDonalds.  The truck initially stopped, and after a few moments, fled the scene.

* Berger's vehicle approached the intersection of Hamilton and Cedar Crest boulevards and went through a red traffic light, causing an accident.

* Berger's vehicle continued on Hamilton Boulevard, coming to a stop about one-tenth-mile north of Cedar Crest Boulevard.

* State police said Berger appeared intoxicated and was placed under arrest on the charges.

* An 87-year-old man from Allentown who was driving one of the cars involved in the accident at Hamilton and Cedar Crest boulevards also was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. His injuries were not known.

* A third driver involved in the crash was not known.

* A fourth driver was not taken to the hospital.
