Suspicious Package With Odor Delivered at Doctors' Office

Emergency crews arrived at Lehigh Valley Health Network medical offices in South Whitehall after several people were sickened Friday when a package with an odor was delivered, an official said.

Several people were sickened when a package with a non-hazardous irritant was delivered Friday morning to a Lehigh Valley Health Network medical office at 3080 Hamilton Blvd. in South Whitehall, according to LVHN Spokesman Brian Downs.

The package was later determined to be an envelope from a medical
company that conducts frequent business with the medical office, South Whitehall Township police said in a news release.

The package was checked for known hazardous substances and found to be clear of any hazards, police said.

Police arrived at the building about 9:30 a.m. after a report of a suspicious package. Office staff removed the package from the building before emergency crews arrived and the medical office was briefly closed, the news release said.

Several individuals who complained of irritation or discomfort were decontaminated at the scene and transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for further medical evaluation, police said.

The building houses primary care and specialist physician practices.

The offices were reopened after emergency responders determined the building was safe from hazardous vapors, police said.
