An Orefield woman was hurt in a Route 22 accident when fifth axel tires detached from a tractor-trailer traveling in the opposite direction and hit her car, state police said.
The Freightliner rig, operated by Dustin Nichols, 24, of Woodbury, Tenn., was traveling westbound just past the Cedar Crest Boulevard exit of Route 22 when the fifth axel tires on the driver’s side detached and bounced into oncoming eastbound traffic, troopers said.
The tires hit a 2007 Honda CRV being driven by Heidi Noll-Abeln, 45, of Orefield, who suffered what troopers described as “moderate injuries.” Cetronia Ambulance responded to the scene and took Noll-Abeln to Lehigh Valley Hospital—Cedar Crest, police said.
The accident occurred on Oct. 2 at about 12:30 p.m., police said.
Nichols was not injured, but he was been charged with a vehicle code violation, according to police.
