Trial Set in South Whitehall Hit-Run Case

Joseph Knauss is scheduled to go on trial Monday in Lehigh County court in connection with a December 2010 hit-run case.

 

A Coplay man charged in the hit-and-run of a man in an Embassy Bank parking lot in South Whitehall is scheduled to stand trial Monday in Lehigh County Court.

Joseph R. Knauss, 26, faces charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person in the 2010 case.

The trial is scheduled before Lehigh County Judge Robert Steinberg, with jury selection starting at 9:30 a.m.

Knauss allegedly struck Richard Heydt in the bank's parking lot at 4148 Tilghman St. on Dec. 14, 2010, and left the scene. South Whitehall police said at the time that witnesses provided information that led to Knauss's arrest the next day.

Knauss was initially scheduled for trial in April, but it was delayed.
