Brian Hite Enters Township Commissioner Race

Hite is the first to announce his candidacy on South Whitehall Patch.

Brian Hite, a member of the South Whitehall planning commission and a third-generation township resident, announced today that he will be running for township commissioner.

Hite, a Republican, who turns 41 today, graduated from Parkland School District and received a certificate from Penn State University in business logistics. He is employed as a tractor trailer mechanic.

"I want to give back to the community in which I was raised and educated," Hite said in a prepared release.

A regular at township commissioner meetings, Hite said he developed an interest in seeking the elected office after regularly attending those meetings twice a month for the past decade. A lifelong township resident, he said he has seen "incredible change" in the township, and growth.

"I value my community and feel a sense of commitment to it that I would like to expand upon by being an elected advocate for the citizens," said Hite, in the release.

In addition to the planning commission, Hite is a member of the South Whitehall Crime Watch group, Neighbors Are Reporting Crime (N.A.R.C.). He said he strongly supports the township police department and its volunteer fire departments.

"I have the desire to help the citizens of South Whitehall to know exactly where their tax dollars are going as well as what the township can and should be doing for them through accountability and transparency," he said in the release.

He said he would be "hands on" in representing township residents and that he would work to resolve their township problems.

Hite said he also plans to seek the Democratic nomination as a write-in candidate.

The primary will be held May 17.

Three township seats are up for election this year.
