Community Emergency Preparedness Day is Saturday
Learn how to protect your family in emergencies, beyond fire alarms and smoke detectors
Stop, drop and roll your way over to the Community Emergency Preparedness Day at the Pennsylvania Expo Center Saturday, Sept. 17.
The event, hosted by South Whitehall, Upper Macungie and North Whitehall townships, is free to the public. It kicks off at 11 a.m. at the expo center, 501 Cetronia Road, South Whitehall, and lasts to 4 p.m.
The event aims to ensure that individuals and families are prepared for emergencies, including how to react to a house fire. Area fire companies will be hosting a junior firefighter challenge, and attendees will have the chance to take part in a mock search-and-rescue obstacle course and carry a fireman’s hose pack.

Area police departments will also be at the event and will have information available for underage drinking awareness and the ID-a-Kid program. Attendees can also check out the police department’s four-legged friends during K-9 demos.
Of course, the fundamentals of safety don’t come without a little bit of fun. A clown and ventriloquist Matt Bailey will be on hand to provide some lighthearted entertainment.
