County Joins Fight to Save King George Inn

Lehigh County Commissioners will send letter of support to South Whitehall that encourages the adaptive re-use of the historic King George Inn.

The Lehigh County Board of Commissioners support saving the King George Inn from demolition.

The board voted 6 to 3 Wednesday night to send a letter of support to the South Whitehall Township Commissioners that encourages the adaptive re-use of the 257-year-old building, according to WFMZ.com.

South Whitehall Commissioners agreed last week to discuss alternatives with the developer who wants to raze the historic building and replace it with a bank, restaurant and drug store.

The South Whitehall Township Zoning Hearing Board will meet Oct. 3 to hear the developer's request for zoning variances.
