Jaindl to Discuss Hills at Winchester Development Wednesday

David Jaindl met neighborhood opposition when he proposed buying the Shoemaker car lot to build high-end stores and a restaurant and create another access road to the Hills at Winchester.

Developer David Jaindl will discuss plans for Shoemaker's auto dealership at the South Whitehall Board of Commissioners' Wednesday meeting.

The car dealership at 4131 Walbert Ave. is next to the Hills at Winchester, his proposed 90 single-family-home development on the Rutz farm.

Jaindl met neighborhood opposition in May when he proposed buying the Shoemaker lot to create another access road into the development to build high-end stores and a restaurant on the car dealership lot.

The car dealership lot would have to be rezoned neighborhood commercial. Its current use was grandfathered into the zoning ordinance, which was created after the car dealership was established.

Creating entrance and exit roads from the Hills at Winchester has posed a challenge. Jaindl has proposed accessing the development from 40th Street, if it's extended north of Walbert on the Shoemaker lot, and Penn's Crossing.

Jaindl and residents who live on Brickyard Road, a steep and narrow road at the northern end of the development, do not want to make Brickyard an access road because it would be too dangerous.
