On Sunday, Jan. 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley will host its annual Super Sunday phone-a-thon at the Jewish Community Center of Allentown at 702 N. 22nd St. in Allentown.
Numerous elected officials will be present at the event to greet volunteers, including:
- U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright
- State Sen. Pat Browne
- State Rep. Mike Schlossberg
- State Rep. Ryan McKenzie
- Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski
- Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan
- Easton Mayor Sal Panto
For the first time this year, Super Sunday will feature a PJ Library story time for children at 11 a.m. with stories focusing on the value of giving. Mayor Callahan and Mayor Panto will be among the readers. PJ Library is a combined effort of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and the local Jewish community to provide free books every month to all Jewish children in the Lehigh Valley ages 6 months through 8 years. Y Man will also be on hand with tasty treats from the Yofresh Yogurt Cafe in Allentown.
Over 100 volunteers show up each year to help raise money for the Jewish Federation’s annual campaign. More than 1,000 calls will be placed on Super Sunday – a day for giving everyone the opportunity to participate in supporting the needs of the community. Funds raised by the annual campaign provide support to local agencies such as the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Day School and Jewish Family Service; Jewish communities around the world and in Israel; and humanitarian relief efforts internationally. In the past year, the Lehigh Valley Jewish community raised humanitarian aid in the wake of Superstorm Sandy and the escalating crisis in Israel.
