South Whitehall commissioners will hold a public hearing at its meeting Wednesday on the transfer of a restaurant liquor license to P.J. Whelihan's, which hopes to tear down its existing restaurant and

The commissioners meet at 7:30 p.m. at the administration building, and the hearing is among the items on the agenda.

The resolution is to approve the transfer of restaurant liquor license R-2618. Information on who had the license was not immediately available. However, according to the Pennsylvania Liquor License Co., a restaurant license is for those establishments that are at least 400 square feet and that primarily provide food service. Eateries with an "R" license may serve liquor, wine and beer products, according to the liquor license company.

In April, P.J. Whelihan's unveiled its plan to raze its restaurant on Broadway and build a larger, 250-seat $4 million eatery in its place. 

The restaurant would triple in size to 9,240 square feet and expand its parking to accommodate 114 vehicles at Hausman and Tilghman streets, according to sketch plans presented to South Whitehall planners.

The restaurant has a liquor license but would need a new type of license, a township official said.
