South Whitehall Police, Fire, Emergency Workers Get New 2-Way Radios

South Whitehall Township fire, police and rescue workers had been using radios that were about 15 to 20 years old.

South Whitehall Township police, fire and emergency workers will get new two-way radios to replace the outdated ones they had been using.

The Board of Commissioners earlier this month approved a $256,000 contract proposal submitted by TuWay Communications of Bethlehem.

The township was required by federal law to replace all radios with narrow bandwidth, according to Township Manager Jon Hammer.

Most of the radios that will be replaced are about 15 to 20 years old, he said.

Public works department workers will also get replacement radios.
