South Whitehall Commissioners approved three resolutions Wednesday that serve to promote the following officers in the South Whitehall Police Department:
- Joel R. Wischner is new officer assigned to the Patrol Division to begin the Field Training Program. Wischner, 25, is a Parkland High School graduate with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Lehigh Carbon Community College. An Allentown resident, Wischner received Act 120 certification through the Allentown Police Academy.
- Corporal Stephen G. Brown is promoted from Patrol Officer to Corporal and he will be a Patrol Shift Supervisor. He attended Jacksonville Area Community College in Florida and served in the U.S. Navy as a Military Police Officer. Brown, 29, was honorably discharged in 2005 and has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer and as one of the Coordinators of the South Whitehall Township Crime Watch.
- Sergeant Mark C. Ruff, 43, is promoted from corporal to sergeant and will be Patrol Division Supervisor. He is an Emmaus High School graduate who started with the South Whitehall Police Department in 1992. He received his Act 120 certification at Lackawanna Junior College in 1992. In 2000, Ruff earned his Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and in 2007 a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice - both from DeSales University. He has served as a Patrol Officer and in 1997 was selected as an Investigator with the Lehigh County Drug Task Force. He also serves as an In-Depth Accident Reconstruction and Investigation Specialist.
