Woodlawn Fire Department Thankful for New Tanker

Woodlawn Fire Department thanked South Whitehall commissioners on Wednesday night for its new tanker, now in operation for three months.

Chief Rusty Held Jr. showed gratitude Wednesday to the South Whitehall commissioners for the department’s new tanker, presenting a plaque to the board for “ongoing support and dedication.”

“This is a very nice gesture,” Commissioners President Tori Morgan said. “But the thanks go out to you.”

The commissioners had authorized the spending of more than $500,000 for the new tanker, which arrived in February.

The tanker is 40 feet, one inch long, longer than the old one. It seats six, rather than five firefighters, who all are able to sit inside the cab. The new tanker carries 2,500 gallons of water for fighting fires and a pool that will hold 3,000 gallons of water – 500 gallons more than the old tanker.

It has a generator and a pump panel that injects foam into the water to aid in fire-fighting efforts. An EMS cabinet carries oxygen and an automated external defibrillator.
