Howard Lessel, who has been on medical leave as principal, is resigning after 19 years with the district.
The Parkland School Board accepted his resignation at its meeting Tuesday.
Harrison Bailey III of the high school since Jan. 23, at a stipend of $750 a month.
Lessel's resignation will be effective June 30.
School Board member Roberta Marcus said the board members were grateful to Lessel for his 19 years of service.
“We appreciate all his time and service in providing a quality education to our students at the high school,” Marcus said.
The board also accepted the retirement of high school English teacher John F. Durishin Jr., who is leaving after 34 years with the district. Durishin will leave at the end of this school year.
“He’s taught all levels of English, and he’s done just a phenomenal job," said Superintendent Richard Sniscak.
