Parkland Homecoming Week Starts Today

This year's theme is 'Into the Wild.'

Parkland High School's Homecoming Week starts today and continues through Saturday, Oct. 13.

Student Council chose the theme Into the Wild, and proceeds will support educational programming for Parkland students and staff at the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

During school days, students will participate in daily spirit dress-ups, and the  18th Annual Garter Bowl is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 10. On Friday, students will build a float for the parade and the game will follow. The dance is scheduled for Saturday.

  • The 18th Annual Garter Bowl, 6 PM, Football Stadium. Rain date is Oct 11. A girls powder-puff flag football event where the freshmen girls play the junior girls, the sophomores face the seniors, and then the winners of the two previous games face off in a championship game at 8 p.m. Cost is $5.00 and game times are: 6:00 p.m. - Freshmen vs. Juniors; 7:00 p.m. - Sophomores vs. Seniors; and 8:00 p.m. - Championship Game

Oct. 12

  • Homecoming Float Building, Orefield Middle School Bus Garage, all day. Student organizations will team-build floats for Friday night’s homecoming game with floats focused on the “Jungle/Safari/Into the Wild” theme. Judging of the floats will take place in the parking lot adjacent to the upper bus garages behind the stadium at 5:30 p.m. The floats will remain available for viewing throughout the first quarter of the football game and then will follow the Homecoming Court around the stadium for the annual halftime parade during the game. 

Oct. 13

  • Semi-formal Homecoming Dance, “Jungle Love,” from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The Parkland High School Homecoming king and queen will be announced at the dance on Saturday night.
