Parkland Offers Alternative Teacher Gifts to Benefit Foundation

Forget the same old teacher gifts this year and get them something that benefits education in the Parkland School District.

Tired of the coffee mug or apple pin teacher presents? Then Parkland School District has another option.

In return for your tax-deductible donation, you will receive a student-designed holiday card that can be personalized with a note and then delivered to a Parkland staff person on behalf of your family.

Your gift will help support the district Education Foundation’s Celebrate Innovation Grant Program where staff can apply for grants designed to enhance instruction or improve our community.

By the end of the year, the foundation gave more than $70,000 to Parkland schools in support of excellence and innovation. Holiday Cards can be ordered online at www.parklandsd.org/foundation or by mailing in payment and the form, which can be found at this link: http://www.parklandsd.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Holiday-Ask-2012.pdf.

Also available now are Foundation Discount Cards, supported by many businesses in the Parkland community. Cards are just $5 and make great gifts!

I contacted LVHN several months ago about volunteering with my son (8 years old) at the AndersonRead More campus. I would stay with him at all times and supervise him. I was told that they do not accept children. I think its a shame that the hospital will not accept him a a volunteer. I am trying to teach him how to give back to his community . Apparently the hospital does not want our help. I think several patients, especially older ones, would like getting assistance from a young child.

Tom, LVHN does not have an Anderson Campus. I believe you are referring to St Luke's Health Network.Read More LVHN is not able to accept volunteers under the age of 16 years old. There are many mandated reasons that young children are not allowed to volunteer in a hospital setting. Volunteering is a wonderful thing to teach your children. There are organizations in the Leigh Valley who are willing to utilize families. Please visit the Volunteer Center of the Leigh Valley for other opportunities in your area. www.volunteerlv.org
