Parkland to Get $150K Energy Refund

Parkland School District expects to get up to a $150,000 rebate by switching energy providers.

Parkland School District will get a $100,000 to $150,000 rebate by switching energy providers and agreeing to reduce energy use during peak times, said Mark Lapos, director of school services.

The school board approved a three-year agreement with Energy Curtailment Specialists at its Tuesday meeting. ECS will be the district's provider with PJM Interconnection LLC, which controls the high-voltage energy grid to much of the Eastern United States.

The peak energy time is between June 1 and Sept. 30 and between noon and 8 p.m., Lapos said.

Parkland had a similar agreement since 2009 with its previous provider, ClearChoice Energy, but terminated it in August. The district did not participate in the rebate program in 2012-2013 because of changes in the energy auction market, Lapos said.
