Spring Musicals: "Annie" and "How to Eat Like a Child"

Springhouse and Orefield middle schools present their productions this week.

Parkland middle school students take to the stage this week with two separate musicals -- the popular "Annie" and the insightful "How to Eat Like a Child."

Students at Orefield Middle School will present "Annie," the story of a young orphan girl named Annie who is taken under wing by a rich industrialist. The show is directed and choreographed by Jonathan Lynch.

Nearly 45 students are working on the production.

"We have been working incredibly hard,"  said Lynch.

"It's a great family show. It's a classic musical that we all love."

Performances of "Annie" are at 7 tonight, March 1; and 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2. Another performance will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 6. There will be a ticket charge for the March 6 performance only: $3 for students, $5 for adults.

Also this week, Springhouse Middle School will present its musical production of "How to Eat Like a Child."

In this one-act revue, directed by Ian Waldraff, an ensemble cast of youngsters give lessons, including how to beg for a dog and how to stay home from school.

"There's an astute message, which is, wisdom doesn't only have to come from experience. Wisdom can also come from innocence," Waldraff said.

Performances are at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, and Thursday, March 3.

Photographer Betty Cauler was on hand for the dress rehearsals for both productions. Watch the video and view her photos.
