Springhouse Teacher Among Finalists for Grammy Music Educator Award

Debra Reilly, a Springhouse Middle School music teacher, is one of 16 Pennsylvania teachers to qualify for The Recording Academy and The Grammy Foundation Music Educator Award.

Springhouse Middle School teacher Debra Reilly is one of 217 music teachers to make the quarter-finals for Music Educator Award established by The Recording Academy and The Grammy Foundation.

More than 30,000 music teachers were nominated from all 50 states for the Music Educator Award, which was established this year to recognize teachers from kindergarten to college "who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools," according to the foundation.

Reilly is one of 16 music teachers from Pennsylvania to make the quarter-finals. Ten semi-finalists will be announced in August and the winner will be presented the award at the Special Merit Awards ceremony and nominees reception honoring recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustee Award, Technical Grammy Award during Grammy week in 2014.

The winner will be flown to Los Angeles to accept the award, attend the Grammy wards ceremony and receive $10,000. The nine finalists will receive a $1,000 honorarium, and the schools of all 10 finalists also will receive matching grants.
